What is meant by Immersion Education?

Immersion Education is the system of language learning that your child experiences in a Gaelscoil. This effectively means that your child is immersed in the Irish language from their first day at school. Immersion Education is recognised internationally as the most effective system of second language learning. Your child will acquire the Irish language in a natural setting at school by engaging in the following teaching and learning methodologies.

• Drama and role-play activities.
• Communicative language games.
• Sporting activities and structured free play.
• Learning phrases and language function in a thematic context.
• Interaction with the teacher, children and visitors to the school with Irish.
